Roulin Art Show Culminates Today at Art Emporium

Tatiana Roulin talks about her work as her show in Needham winds down.

Bookstores have some great finds, as artist Tatiana Roulin can attest.

An Art Emporium staff member saw Roulin's December show at Barnes & Noble in the Walpole Mall and introduced her to the Needham gallery. Today, Mar. 31, Roulin’s show in Needham comes to a close, but the artist has much to talk about and look forward to, including an April 2 opening at the Boyden Library in (10 Bird Street, Foxboro).

A former software engineer, Roulin said during a recent interview at her Sharon home studio that she tries to show her work monthly.

PATCH: How do you keep your shows different?

TATIANA ROULIN: It's really easy for me, because I'm used to doing series.

I'll do a series of pastel landscapes. After that, if I feel like I have to do something different, I'll do still lifes.

I try to switch from subject to subject. It keeps me in good shape.

PATCH: Do you have a favorite medium to work in?

TATIANA ROULIN: Right now, I'm working in pastel and acrylics. But I plan to work in oil soon, because my next show will be primarily work in oil.

PATCH:  What happens when you get tired of working with one medium?

TATIANA ROULIN: I always want to try something else, to do something new.

I try to plan several months ahead, to allow some time to get ready.

PATCH: This is your second career. How did the career change happen?

TATIANA ROULIN: I have been creative since my childhood. I wanted to do something creative.

When the big companies closed and went bankrupt, a lot of people in our field, computer science, they were suddenly without jobs.

I started to do web design. Gradually, I felt I wanted to go on to something better, so I started my education in art. I became really interested in that, so I got a second degree.
