UPDATE: State Police Confirm Fatality in Rte. 128 Rollover

The victim was reportedly rushed to the hospital due to head and body trauma.

UPDATE (7:03 p.m.): All lanes of Rte 128 are now open following closure for accident reconstruction teams.

UPDATE (6:16 p.m.): The Wellesley Police Department has relating "extensive backups" on Rte. 128 South. Wellesley PD also reports that the road closure near the scene of the accident is expected to last "at least two hours."

Brian Keaney is also reporting that traffic is a problem on Greendale Ave. due to traffic diversion from the Kendrick St. area.

"A 15 min. commute just took me 30," Keaney related in an email.

UPDATE (5:24 p.m.): State Police officials have just confirmed to Needham Patch that there has been a fatality related to this crash. More information will be posted when it becomes available.

Rte. 128 South in Needham is facing substantial traffic backups after a rollover accident that took place about a quarter mile south of Kendrick St.

According to police scanner reports, the victim was ejected from the vehicle and sustained "severe head and body trauma." The victim has since been rushed to BID-Needham Hospital.

Brian Keaney witnessed the scene from his office and noted several emergency vehicles rush down the highway.

"Rte. 128 South is at a dead stop," he said. "It looks like a parking lot out there."

Traffic is currently being diverted off of Rte. 128 at Highland Ave. and being sent down Greendale to Great Plain. The diversion is due to an investigation taking place at the scene.
