Selectmen Approve School Zone Near Eliot School in Needham

The move came in response to concerned Eliot School parents.

The section of Central Avenue running in front of the Eliot Elementary School has just become much safer for children and others traveling on foot.

The Needham Board of Selectmen voted to designate the 700-foot stretch of Central Avenue between Cedar Street and Webster Street a school zone. during a Dec. 22 meeting. The zone will take effect from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The designation came in response to concerned Eliot Elementary School parents during a Traffic Management Advisory Committee on Dec. 9. The town responded quickly to signage requests and are planning to cross-hatch another crosswalk. The town also intends to paint “school” on the road.
