Snowbank Crash, Smelling Toxic Vapor: Needham Police Log

The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

January 5

3:45 p.m. - An officer responded to a Chambers Street residence for a parking issue that escalated. No issues persisted and all parties were satisfied.

6:15 p.m. - An officer was traveling in the area of 2nd Avenue and observed a vehicle with a license plate that was not illuminated. The vehicle was stopped in the area of 4th Avenue. The operator had a suspended license and two default warrants. The operator, Dominic Johnston, 45, of Boston, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, number plate violation, and two default warrants out of Dedham District Court..

6:50 p.m. - Officers responded to the area near 568 South St. for a report of a two-car crash. Both operators reported chest pain from the crash. Needham Fire responded and transported the occupants to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham with minor injuries. Roadside rescue responded and towed both vehicles. The operator of one of the vehicles will be issued a citation for a marked lanes violation.

January 8

11:54 a.m. - An officer responded to the rear of a Highland Avenue business for a report of a suspicious person. As the result of an investigation, a 28-year-old Wellesley man will be summoned to Dedham District Court for smelling a substance with toxic vapor.

2:45 p.m. - A Clarke Road resident came to the police station to report that back in June of 2016, she had paid a contractor for some outside work. The work was never performed. The matter is under investigation.

3:15 p.m. - An officer pulled a vehicle over on Great Plain Avenue near Central Avenue. After a short investigation the operator, Christos Kokkalis, 27, of Boston, was arrested. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration. All were subsequent offenses.

7:45 p.m. - An officer responded to a Wachusett Road residence for the report annoying phone calls. A report was taken and the residents were advised.

9:30 p.m. - An officer responded to the area of Central Avenue and Noyes Street for a report of a motor vehicle that had crashed into a snowbank. Upon further investigation at the scene, a Kevin Byron, 47, of Quincy, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, failure to stay in marked lanes, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
