Tia Fuller to perform in Needham

Grammy-nominated jazz artist Tia Fuller to perform with Needham High School Jazz Ensemble

The Needham High School Jazz Ensemble is excited to welcome Grammy-nominated musician, composer, and bandleader Tia Fuller to Needham High School in January. Ms. Fuller, a full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music, will lead a master class for student musicians that will culminate in a performance with her at Jazz Night on January 20.

Ms. Fuller is an accomplished solo artist who has recorded five full-length projects with her quartet and has received numerous awards including, JazzTimes Best Alto Saxophonist (2018) and Downbeat Critic’s Rising Star two years in a row in the categories of Soprano Sax (2014) and Alto Sax and Flute (2013). She was also appointed as the 2018 Artist-in-Residence at the Monterey Jazz Festival in Monterey, CA.

Ms. Fuller is well known as the model for the character of Dorothea Williams in the Pixar movie “Soul;” she has also toured with Beyoncé, performed for President Obama at the White House, and appeared in a cutting-edge “Rhythm in Blues” advertising campaign for retailer J.Jill.
