Town Meeting Says Yes to Pot Moratorium, Limits on McMansions
Needham held the Annual Town Meeting this week.

NEEDHAM, MA — Less teardown of homes in favor of larger houses known as "McMansions" can now be expected following this week's Annual Town Meeting.
Town Meeting members voted to restrict the teardown which has seen property owners demolish ranches and small two-story homes in favor of larger houses which crowd the lot, according to the Needham Times. The new zoning bylaws limits the size of the replacement home and how far back it is from the property.
On the marijuana front, the meeting voted to establish a temporary moratorium on recreational marijuana establishments. The moratorium halts any potential establishments from setting up shop in Needham until Dec. 31, 2018 with the expectation that a Special Town Meeting in fall 2018 will have zoning laws for the sale of the drug. Medical marijuana is not affected by the vote.
