NEEDHAM, MA — Voters have said yes to a new elementary school in Needham.
Tuesday, Question 5, which asked voters to approve a debt exclusion for a new Hillside Elementary School, passed 11,687-5,222, according to unofficial results from the Needham Town Clerk's office.

The project was previously approved by last month's town meeting. The town will use $57.5 million from a debt exclusion to build the new school on Central Avenue. The total budget for the project is $66 million, with about $8.46 million already appropriated for the feasibility design and land acquisition.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority is expected to reimburse a portion of a project, with the total anticipated to be between about $13-14 million.
The school is scheduled to open in time for the 2020-21 school year, but an accelerated schedule could see the doors opening a year early.
