• New Bedford Man Sentenced to 50 Years in Prison for Child Rapes (wbsm.com) — A New Bedford man has been sentenced in Fall River Superior Court to 40 to 50 years in state prison after a jury conviction for multiple counts involving the repeated sexual abuse of two children. Prosecutors detailed years of assaults while the children’s mother was at work, and the district attorney praised the victims’ perseverance through a long legal process.
• Mass. Big Brothers Big Sisters Needs Urgent Male Mentors (wbsm.com) — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts says more than 100 local boys are waiting for mentors, including many in the New Bedford region, where only 75 matches exist today. Men 18 and older with transportation are urged to volunteer about six hours a month, with staff support and training provided to help build kids’ confidence and decision-making skills.
