• Harmful bacteria persist in Merrimack River days after Haverhill sewer break (boston.com) — If you’re in Newburyport, be aware that Plum Island beaches remain closed and local shellfishing areas off Newburyport are still under emergency closure after a major sewage spill in the Merrimack River. Testing shows harmful bacteria levels are improving but still above safe limits in several spots, and state officials say shellfish beds will only reopen once water and shellfish samples meet health standards.
   

• Body found in Merrimack River after Salisbury boat crash (nbcboston.com) — Newburyport residents should know that a body was recovered Monday near Ram Island in the Merrimack River, where a man went missing after a Friday night boat crash off Salisbury. Newburyport’s Harbormaster joined state and federal agencies in an extensive search, and officials are still investigating the cause of the crash while withholding the victim’s identity pending family notification.
