14 Car Break-Ins In One Night, Stolen Cars: Newton Police Logs
At least a dozen people reported their cars were broken into overnight Friday.

NEWTON, MA — Here's a sample of the other types of calls the Newton Police Department respond to each day from the Newton Police logs, crime chart and sometimes police scanner radio, which are public. Arrests do not imply conviction. And just because someone reports a crime does not mean it happened that way.
April 10, Tuesday
Stolen hat: Someone at the Gucci store at 225 Boylston St called to report that around 12:15 p.m. two women went into the store and stole a Gucci baseball hat...The two women were described as Hispanic, one wearing a tan trench coat with a white shirt, blonde hair in her late 20's to early 30's. The second is described as wearing a black long Canadian goose jacket and black pants with brown hair. The woman with the black jacket is the one that took the hat and put it into her purse and left the store without paying for it while the other distracted the employee at the store.
Bite: Someone called to report a dog bite at 4:38 p.m. at the Newton Indoor Sports Center on Wells Avenue.

April 11, Wednesday
Hiding out: A Newton Police officer heard a BOLO (Be on the look out) for a stolen gray Chrysler 300 out of Waltham. Dispatch relayed that the vehicle was pinged in the area of High St in Waltham near Waltham St in Newton. The officer responded to the North St area and began checking lots and side streets along with other units. While traveling east bound on North St an officer passed the car they were looking for speeding away in the opposite direction toward Waltham. The officer that noticed it was able to find it on Farwell Street behind American Hardware abandoned. A passerby came up to the officer and told him that he saw that the driver was a middle aged man wearing a black hoodie with the hood up and that he had ran in to the ..... landscaping yard on the right. The officer updated dispatch and saw a man matching the suspect’s description ....The suspect saw us behind him and kneeling down behind a tombstone approximately 100 yards from ... He then looked up and saw us still approaching him and took off in a full sprint towards Calvary Street. As we pursued him we called in our direction as the suspect ran into the back yard of a residence and came out on Calvary St where he was apprehended and placed in custody by the Mass State Police.
Stolen Car: Someone at Hertz reported a stolen car.
Suspicious: Someone called police at 11:16 a.m. to report a suspicious person on West Pine Street.
April 12, Thursday
Car break in: A Duxbury Road resident called police at 11:03 p.m. to report their car was broken into.
Shoplifter: The Vitamin Shoppe on Needham Street reported a shoplifter.

Overdose: Someone reported an overdose on Scotney Road.
April 13, Friday
Lock your cars: At least 14 people reported their cars were broken into overnight including two on Duxbury Road, one on Gray Cliff Road, six on Warren Street, Langley, Ripley, Madoc and Jackson streets.
Stolen car: At 2:12 a.m., a Gray Cliff Road resident reported his car was stolen. He told police he woke up because his dogs were barking and his brother looked out the window and saw someone driving away in their 2001 Land Rover. They got in their other car and tried to follow the car to the end of Hazelton Road, where he saw two people in the car. He said he couldn't get his a good look at the people. And then decided a confrontation might not be the best idea. When police got to Hazelton Road they saw someone get out of the car and running away cutting through several backyards. Police brought in K-9s and the work dogs lead police to a garage on Comm Ave. Police found two men hiding behind trash barrels there. Police arrested Joshua F. Diaz, 24, homeless and charged him with receiving stolen property and trespassing. Police also arrested Irvin Francisco Diaz, 27, also homeless and charged him with the same.
