“Police officers allegedly saw these three defendants coming and going with illegal drugs,” said Ryan in a release. “Officers saw what appeared to be money and drug exchanges inside vehicles, out of the homes of the suspects, and even at a Dunkin Donuts in Newton. Stopping behavior such as this which is alleged is part of our multi-pronged approach to stemming the tide of overdose deaths. We are also involved in collaborations in order to educate the public, prevent people from becoming addicted, and steer those addicted into treatment.”

The undercover operation began about a month ago. The three defendants were arrested on March 24 after officers stopped a vehicle that a defendant was riding in on Adams Street in Newton. Mitchell, Singleman and Delicata were taken into custody after heroin in glassine bags were found in the car. Police said approximately 6.2 grams of heroin was found in the car.

Newton Police Chief Howard Mintz said in a release, “Heroin and other opiate use has been a growing problem not only in this region, but throughout the entire country. A combined approach of prevention, intervention, and enforcement, will hopefully stem the tide of this troubling menace. Our department is fortunate to be part of the Middlesex Suburban Drug Task Force, which has many experienced officers who are committed to enforcing the drug laws laid out by statute. Hopefully, these arrests will send a clear message, that law enforcement is committed to doing our part in stopping this illegal activity.”
