There's a lot going on in Newton this weekend, here's a good place to start.

NEWTON, MA — As the warmer weather approaches bring on the outdoor activities and festivals in Newton. Saturday May 19 and Sunday May 20 there's plenty to choose from. The Harlem Rockets comedy basketball show

Saturday, May 19: 6:30 p.m.

The Harlem Rockets are sure to entertain with their incredible show-time basketball skills and their family-friendly comedy in a game to benefit the Newton South High School Booster Club. Basketball aficionados will be dazzled by the ball-handling wizardry of Clarence "Mugsy" Leggett. Mugsy is one of the world's most extraordinary dribblers and a former Harlem Globetrotter. You are sure to laugh at James "Speedy" Williams, one of basketball great showmen, who has performed with Jay Z in the MTV Music Awards, was featured in the movie "Above the Rim" starring Tupac and Duane Martin, and was one of the original Nike free-style ballers. The Harlem Rockets incorporate the audience, especially children, into the show and are always available to meet the fans and give autographs after the show. See more.

Newton Community Farm Seedling Sale

Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20: from noon to 3 p.m.

Get your seedlings and start your home garden. Head to the Newton Community Farm’s annual Seedling Sale, where you can get your seedlings for vegetables, herbs, flowers, and that favorite summer crop, tomatoes! We will be selling Vermont Compost again this year to help your garden grow its best. See more.

Waban Village Day

Sunday, May 20: 10 a.m.

Waban's 14th Annual Village Day will be kicked off by the Family Fun Run at 10 a.m. Racers of all ages are encouraged to participate, including children who are allowed to ride bikes and scooters along the 3.1 mile race course. All racers must check-in and register at the Fun Run table in Waban Square at 9:00 AM and will be able to pick up their T-shirts and race numbers there as well. The registration fee is $20/individual or $50/family (up to 4 members) and includes the race day T-shirt(s), which will be made from cooling performance fabric again this year to help celebrate our 13th Fun Run! Arts Market

Sunday, May 20: from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art in the Square

This showcases hand-made gifts, original art, jewelry and one-of- a-kind merchandise available for purchase. A free craft class will be held during the day featuring planting rosemary seeds to bring home.
