5 Things To Do Saturday In Newton: Holiday Fairs To METCO Event

NEWTON, MA — If you're wondering what to do this weekend, look out for Saturday. Tis the season for holiday fairs on a Saturday in Newton. And the Newton Public School District is also opening up a METCO sponsored event to all Newton Public School families to discuss race and the role that plays in schools.

Check out all the options:

First Unitarian Universalist Society Holiday Fair

  • Where: 1326 Washington Street, West Newton
  • When: 9:30 a.m. -1 p.m.
  • Look for handmade gifts, toys, jewelry, gifts/collectibles, baked goods, jams and jellies, books, decorated wreaths, ornaments, and trees. There will be a homemade soup lunch and holiday music. There will also be a silent auction.

December Market at Second Church in Newton

  • Where: 60 Highland Street, West Newton.
  • When: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Think: Gifts, wreathes, and craft making for all ages. Books, Kitchen ware, games. Baked cookies and treats. Gift baskets. There will be crafting and holiday décor. And yes, there will be Holiday Cranberry Tea and other snacks.

Newton City Hall Holiday Craft Fair

  • Where: at Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Ave.
  • When: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • You’ll find a juried selection of handmade creations by the artisans. Explore and shop artworks in textiles, glass, jewelry, pottery, paintings, photographs and woodwork.

Auburndale Community Nursery School’s 29th Annual Holiday Fair

  • Where: 218 Walnut Street, Newtonville
  • When: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Look for Cafe with Pizza from O’Hara’s + Paddy’s Pub, Chili, hot dogs and drinks, face painting and craft projects for children, Bake Sale, Local Vendors, Huge Silent Auction and a Giant Flea Market.

2018 Newton Family Conference

  • Where: Newton North
  • When: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • The goal of the Newton Family Conference is to build relationships between families of color and white families within the district, advance dialogue around issues of race, culture, and identity and create opportunities for families within Newton Public Schools to meet each other. The Family Conference is one way in which the Newton Public School District is seeking to create culturally responsive school communities with equity and excellence for all, according to the invitation. Participants at the conference will attend workshops on “Courageous Conversations About Race” facilitated by NPS trained facilitators. These sessions will be similar to the workshops in which Newton faculty and staff are participating.
