Accused Of Stabbing Man At Grocery Store, Newton Man Indicted: DA

The Middlesex County District Attorney's office said a grand jury indicted the man accused of stabbing an older gentleman in March.

NEWTON, MA — In March a man walked into the Star Market in Auburndale and stabbed an older man, sending him to the hospital. The Middlesex County Grand Jury just indicted Matthew Muradov, 23, of Newton, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over the age of 60 (2 counts). The indictment came as part of a list of Grand Jury indictments handed down between May 31 and June 28, 2018.

Police at the time said the stabbing of the 79-year-old Newton man was a random incident.

Muradov was arraigned in Newton District Court in March. According to a court clinician he had a history of mental illness and had been released from a psych ward in a hospital just three days before the Star Market stabbing.

"We do not believe the parties knew each other," said Lt. Bruce Apothekar at the time.
