Cambridge Savings Bank’s Community Partner Solutions’ division recently hosted a forum entitled “How to Build The Board of Your Dreams” for nonprofits from across Eastern Massachusetts. More than 50 people from local nonprofit organizations attended the event.
Among the attendees were representatives from the All Newton Music School, Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, Social Capital Inc., Mount Auburn Cemetery, the Social Innovation Forum of Root Cause, and Boston Rising.
“Community Partners Solutions is designed to do more than meet specific financial needs of local and regional nonprofit organizations,” said Charles Van Hise, the bank’s vice president of nonprofit solutions. “By addressing the unique challenges nonprofits face in reaching charitable objectives; we ultimately help them improve the neighborhoods and communities they serve.”

Dave Welbourn, President and CEO of the Essex County Community Foundation, moderated the session, educating attendees about effective board-building techniques. The forum focused on how nonprofits can develop a description of board duties that ensure loyalty to the organization on the part of recruits. In addition, the forum addressed how to effectively build a matrix of candidates based on need and evaluate board performance to ensure that goals are attained.
