NEWTON, MA — A Swedish candy business is opening its first permanent brick-and-mortar location at The Street Chestnut Hill this spring. The opening follows a year of pop-ups and a presence at The Current in Boston Seaport.

The Sweetish Fish offers a modern interpretation of a classic candy shop, featuring a full-service scooping experience. The brand gained recognition after launching as a pink-striped candy food truck on Cape Cod last summer. Founders Savanna Vaughn and Cara Crupi-Dulmaine, who are both Cape Cod natives, created the concept to reimagine the penny-candy experience.

The Chestnut Hill location will feature a rotating “Catch of the Day” menu with 18 international candy choices daily. This offers more variety for visitors, including specialty items like chocolate sardines from a women-owned New England chocolate maker. The shop aims to be an experiential destination, encouraging exploration and conversation.

The Street's General Manager Emmy Parsons expressed her excitement in adding the business to the plaza's roster.

“Their service-driven approach and sense of nostalgia add a distinctive offering to our retail mix and reinforce The Street as a place for one-of-a-kind experiences," Parsons said about The Sweetish Fish.

Crupi-Dulmaine said the opening of this inaugural location is just the beginning of a longer journey for her company.

"Every element from design to retail and full-service offerings has been thought about intentionally and we are excited to bring this new wave of a candy experience to Newton," Crupi-Dulmaine said

The Sweetish Fish will be located at 33 Boylston Street, next to Blue Bottle Coffee. The Street Chestnut Hill is home to more than 60 brands, including food, retail, and entertainment offerings.

An official opening date for The Sweetish Fish has not yet been announced.
