Closing: Inna's Kitchen and Deli to Leave Newton Centre

After six years in Newton Centre, Inna's Kitchen is closing, according to Facebook and their website.

Newton Centre is losing a veteran Jewish deli that specialized in locally sourced classics, grass-fed beef and gluten-free baked goods. Inna's Kitchen is closing. Saturday may be your last chance to get a hot pastrami there.

With the closure of the farm-to-table deli with kosher options (they called themselves "more than kosher-style") it looks like Newton Prime Market might be the closest restaurant with Kosher options.

But Inna and her son Alex won't be so far away. Although they first opened Inna's Kitchen on Pelham Street in 2011, they expanded to a stall at the Boston Public Market in 2015.

"We will still be downtown at the Boston Public Market and we will continue making our soups, pot-pies, and other frozen items. We hope to make them readily available to you even if you can’t visit us at the market. Whether we send care packages, deliver to offices, sell online, or via other retail stores, it’s still to be determined," said Owners Inna Khitrik and her son Alex in the restaurant's newsletter. But they added, the plan is to teach some cooking classes at the market, down the line.

Their family left the Soviet Union in 1990 and found a home in Boston. When Inna first came to the US she started working at a deli and then co-founded a deli in Brookline. She went on to work as head chef and kitchen manager for the JCHE in Newton and as personal chef for families in Newton, according to her bio. Her son got the bug from her. He grew up working around his mom, but also did a stint at Rosenfeld's Bagel, cleaning and braiding challah, and then worked as a cook and baker at the non-profit Haley House Bakery Cafe in Roxbury.

The idea of Inna's Kitchen was to cook Jewish cuisine from around the world, from matzo ball soup to knish, to falafel in an Israeli pocket or pot pies and stuffed cabbage all from scratch.

Sunday between 10 a.m. and 1p.m., the restaurant will have a going away party celebrating six years Newton.
