Deadly Weapons, Assault And Porch Pirates: Newton Police Logs
Also, a lot of dog bites happened this week.

NEWTON, MA — Over the past week from Friday Feb. 16 until Thursday Feb. 22 several calls came into the Newton Police Department through the dispatch. Police responded to everything from missing packages to dogs off leash, car crashes to break ins. Here's a sample of the types of calls police responded to. It's important to note that just because someone calls police about an incident doesn't mean that's the way it actually went down.
Friday, Feb. 16
- Stolen: A Floral Street resident called to report that a package with a ski helmet was stolen from her front porch.
- Break in: Someone on Needham Street called to report a break in.
- Shoplifter: The folks at Wegmans reported a shoplifter.
- Stolen: Someone on Washington Park reported a larceny at 2:32 p.m. and less than 30 minutes later a separate call came in reporting a larceny on Playstead Road.
- Pipe strippers: A property owner of a vacant building on Needham Street reported that the main electric panels for the building were stripped of all wiring and brass fittings. He reported a number of copper pipes missing from different parts of the building, too
- More porch pirates: A River Street resident called to report four missing packages from her front porch.
Saturday, Feb. 17
- Stolen: Someone at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Washington street reported a larceny at 1:13 a.m.. Later that morning at 8:45 a.m. someone at the Village Falls Condo on Oak Street reported something stolen.
- Bump in the night: Someone called at 9:04 to report a loud noise on Nonantum Street.
Sunday, Feb. 18
- Unwelcome return: A Ferncroft Road resident told police they came home after a few weeks away to find their home had been broken into while they were away and the bedroom was ransacked.
- Leash law: At 8:49 a.m. police got a call about someone with an unleashed dog near Magnolia Avenue and Eliot memorial.Then, around 12:29 p.m. someone called about an unleashed dog on Kenrick Street.
Monday, Feb. 19
- Break in: Someone reported a break in on Washington Street.
- Oops: A Karen Road resident told police they were locked out around 2:30 p.m.
- Weapon: Someone at Newton Wellesly Hospital reported a stabbing or gun at 2:57p.m. (Patch is requesting more information about this. Police did not immediately respond to an inquiry.)
- People are strange?: Between 7:01 p.m. and 7:17 p.m. three calls came into the police station about suspicious people, one on Quinobequin Road, one on Austin Street and the third on Tamworth Road.
- Assault: Someone at the Golden Living Center reported an assault at 6:12 p.m.
- Suspicious: Someone reported a person they thought seemed suspicious on Walnut Street around 12:50 p.m.
- Vandals? Someone reported an incidence of vandalism at 3:47 p.m. on Rachel Road and 5:05 p.m. someone reported something similar on Tarleton Road.
Tuesday, Feb. 20
- Fraud: A Howland Road resident reported identity fraud.
- Vandals: Someone reported vandalism on Tarleton Road.
- Animals: There was a complaint about an animal at the YMCA on Church Street.
- Drugs: Someone called about a possible drug incident near the corner of Auburndale Ave. And Crown Street.
- Assault: Someone at the Golden Living Center reported an assault at 4:50 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 21
- Stolen: Someone at Stone Institute on Elliot street reported a larceny.
- Fight: Someone reported an assault at 9:03 a.m. on Rowe Street.
- Bitey: A dog bit someone near the corner of Auburndale Ave and Shirley Street. The report came in at 3:17 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 22
- With a deadly weapon: There was a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the New England Fat Loss business on Needham Street at 1:54 p.m.
- Vandals: Someone called to report some vandalism on the Sun Pumbing and Heating property on North Street.
- What's with the dog bites: Multiple calls came in about dog bites, including one on Waltham Street at 11:31 and one on California Street at 4:16 p.m.
- Stolen: Someone at the Shops at Chestnut Hill on Boylston Street reported a larceny at 2:06 p.m.
- Dude, where's our car?: About two hours later someone at the Building Department maintenance on Elliot Street reported a stolen vehicle.
- Shoplifter: TJ Maxx on Needham Street reported a shoplifter.
