Expresso Yourself Coffeehouse to feature storyteller/poet Thea Iberall
A great venue for spoken word, poets, storytellers and songwriters of all ages. Open mic with theme. June 25 to feature Thea Iberall
The Expresso Yourself Coffeehouse is the last Saturday of every month at 7pm at First Parish UU, Medfield. Theme for June 25th is "Family." Our feature Thea Iberall has been called ‘a shimmering bridge between heart and mind.’ She has been doing performance poetry and storytelling since 1998, representing LA at the National Poetry Slams. An inductee into the International Educators Hall of Fame, she is featured in the documentary “Poets, Passion and Poetry.” OC Weekly said Iberall “tells narrative stories using simple words that mask hidden layers of meaning and emotion”. Her book of poems, The Sanctuary of Artemis, bridges science and the arts. A semi-finalist in the 2014 Mary Ballard Poetry Chapbook, Iberall is a playwright (We Did It For You! Women’s Journey Through History) and novelist (The Swallow and the Nightingale). Her stories and poetry bring to life her 102-year-old mother, her physicist father, and her Jewish roots.
Open mic readers have 5 minutes to share: original or non-original poetry, stories, performance art, music or songs welcome (sticking to theme encouraged). Teens and adults welcome. Refreshments are served. $5 suggested donation ($3 students). Series sponsored by Starbucks of Medfield.
