Fire Breaks Out On Roof Of Somerville Condo Complex

The building is located in Assembly Row in East Somerville.

SOMERVILLE, MA — No one is injured after a grill fire broke out on the roof of an Assembly Row condominium complex Friday afternoon, according to the Somerville Fire Department.

Crews responded to the two-alarm fire shortly after 1:30 p.m. and evacuated the Alloy Condominiums on 375 Canal St. and the neighboring Row Hotel, as the two of them share a roof space. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen emanating from the roof.

"The responders used two aerial ladders to access the rooftop area, and the truck hoses were connected to the existing building standpipe system to extinguish the blaze," The department told Patch. "The fire destroyed the rooftop outdoor kitchen at 375 Canal and spread to an adjacent roof penthouse belonging to the Row Hotel at 360 Foley Street before it was knocked down."
