I-95/Route 128 Traffic Delays in Newton, Wellesley, Needham: MassDOT

Watch out for lane closures during weekend travel to allow for traffic alignment shift

NEWTON, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is warning drivers of lane closures this weekend beginning Friday. MassDOT warns that drivers traveling on I-95 southbound in the Newton, Wellesley and Needham area from just north of Highland Avenue, are likely to experience delays all the way to just south of Kendrick Street, in order for continued construction operations as part of the Add-A-Lane project.

Here's what MassDOT says to look out for:

· From 10 p.m., on Friday, May 19, through 5 a.m., on Sunday, May 21, MassDOT crews and contractors will be conducting operations to shift traffic into the new alignment and allow for future construction operations.

· During the off-peak, overnight hours on Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20, single lane closures will occur on I-95 southbound in this area in order to allow crews to safely and effectively conduct the traffic alignment shifts.

· During the daytime hours on Saturday, May 20, three lanes of travel will be maintained on I-95 southbound in this area by utilizing the breakdown lane for travel.

· Three lanes of travel will then be restored by 5:00 a.m., on Sunday, May 21.

· In case of inclement weather, these operations will be moved to the following weekend
