Learn More About the Highland Ave. Reconstruction

This Wednesday, the MassDOT held a public hearing in Powers Hall in the Town Hall to give Needham and Newton residents an opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Needham/Newton reconstruction of Highland Avenue.

According to the MassDOT, as posted on its site, “The proposed project consists of roadway reconstruction, bridge construction and signal improvements along the corridor to improve safety and operation of the corridor. Sidewalks and bicycle accommodations consisting of a bicycle lane have been provided in accordance with applicable design guides. A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands.”

In October, Gov. Deval Patrick announced that $3.35 million had been awarded through the MassWorks Infrastructure Program for this project’s first phase, reported N2corridor.com.
