Log: Police Attempt to Serve Warrant for Sodomy, Rape, Mayhem; Man Tries to Jump Out Window
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, Jan. 23
- Police responded to a Washington Street building for a past larceny. A person said he was working in the building and another worker had dropped his drill with various drill bits off for him next to his vehicle. The drill was placed next to the rear door of his car in the municipal lot at the rear of Washington Street. The drill was last seen by a worker at 12:30 p.m. The worker stated that he saw an older model black Dodge Ram parked next to the drill, but could not identify the occupants. He stated that when he went out to get the drill a half hour later it was not there.
- Police responded to Elliot Ave. to serve a warrant arrest out of Falmouth District Court. The officer reported that a man was trying to exit a second story window. They placed him under arrest by virtue of the warrant. Michael Burns, 58, 81 Elliot Ave., Newton, was charged with sodomy (2 counts), rape (2 counts) and mayhem.
Saturday, Jan. 24
- Police responded to CVS at 241 Needham St. for a report of past shoplifting. Reporting person said that an unidentified woman entered the store through the exit side of the double doors, which has the shoplifting detector alarm. When she entered, the alarm was not triggered. A few minutes later, she attempted to exit through the enter side of the double doors, which does not have the shoplifting detector alarm but was unable to open that door as it only opens from the opposite side. She passed through the designated exit door and set off the alarm. An employee asked her to stop but she claimed she didn’t have anything and continued to exit the store. The reporting person said she saw the woman get into a car which was waiting near the store exit but was unable to get a vehicle description or a license plate because the vehicle left too quickly. She describes the unidentified woman as a caucasian female approximately in her mid to late 30s. The woman has dark brown hair in a ponytail down to the back of her neck and wears glasses. She was wearing a black, puffy jacket, black pants, and black shoes.

- Police responded to Pine Street for a past larceny. The reporting person said that he placed a return package for Amazon on his front porch on Wednesday, and noticed it was gone Thursday. He checked with Amazon and realized the package was never picked up for return.
- Police were dispatched to Suffolk Road for a report of found property. The reporting party stated that she found a gold colored women’s wallet laying on the side of the street in front of her house. Police saw footprints in the snow from where the purse was located into the driveway of Suffolk Road. She stated that the footprints were not hers and is unknown who they belong to. She stated that she did not even know she was missing her wallet until I contacted her. She stated that she had parked her vehicle in her driveway on Friday, Jan. 23, on Lawrence Ave. and didn’t use it again until the morning.
- Someone visited the front lobby for a report of a stolen bicycle. The person stated that on Friday, Jan. 23, at approximately 8:30 a.m., he locked his bicycle to a railing near the Newtonville Commuter Rail located at 276 Walnut Street, Newton. He returned to the area on Sunday at approximately 5 p.m. and the bicycle was missing, but the locked remained intact on the railing. It’s a 2009 Iron Horse 5.0 mountain bike with a black frame, silver shocks and green lettering.
