More Tacks In Bike Lanes: Newton Police Stepping Up Patrol

After thumbtacks caused a flat for one cyclist this weekend, Newton Police say they're investigating what's going on with the tacks.

NEWTON, MA — Several weeks ago someone reported finding thumbtacks in the bike lane on Winchester Street. Police at the time said no one officially reported the tacks to them. Now, Newton Police are advising the community to beware of tacks scattered on the roadway and to reach out to them if they know anything about how they got there.

Saturday a cyclist called police to report they'd gotten a flat tire because of tacks scattered on the road near 210 Nahanton St. Meanwhile, Joe Marinelli posted on Instagram warning fellow cyclists about the thumb tacks Saturday.

"Hoping I saved someone from having a bad, or really bad, day today," he wrote.
