Nail Salon Rage In Chestnut Hill Draws Newton Police

Newton Nail Salon Rage

NEWTON, MA — Although it's unclear just why this woman was so upset at the nail salon, it took four security guards and at least one Newton Police officer to get one angry woman out of a nail salon at Chestnut Hill. In the end, police did not arrest her, but summonsed her to court on one count of simple assault and another for disorderly conduct.

About 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, someone called police about a 49-year-old West Roxbury woman who was allegedly making a scene at the Mini Lux on Boylston Street in Chestnut Hill. When police arrived there were four security guards and a number of people near the entrance looking into the nail salon where one woman had allegedly thrown business cards at employees attempting to calm her.

The security guard in charge told police his team attempted to ask the woman to leave the property after his client called him to come help to no avail, the security guard told police it seemed when he arrived she got loud and confrontational.

The security guard said the woman repeatedly shoved her phone in his face in an attempt to get him to speak with MINI LUX management, according to the report.

When police arrived the West Roxbury woman was standing near the front desk yelling at salon management who was on the phone with her.

Police said when they asked to speak to her outside multiple times to avoid blocking the front desk and to let the employees - who had stopped working because of the disturbance - get back to work. The woman allegedly moved toward them and pushed her phone close to the officer's face, causing the officer to step back, according to the police report.

Police said despite multiple attempts to talk to her, the woman became increasingly aggressive and refused to leave the store with the officer or put her phone down. But the woman, according to police, indicated she didn't think the police would actually listen to her side of the story.

After some back and forth the woman finally exited the store but stopped right out front and stood by the entrance and refused to move farther down the sidewalk away from the door. There was a crowd of passerby’s starting to form and "passersby appeared shocked, alarmed, and frightened by the disturbance [the woman] was causing," reads the report.

Eventually the police officer told her if she did not calm down and move off the property like the security guards had asked, she would be subject to arrest for disorderly conduct. Instead of complying, she started shouting profanities, according to the report.

That didn't work either. But rather than arrest the woman on the spot, police took out complaints against the woman for simple assault and disorderly conduct. Police redacted the reason they decided not to arrest her.

"Due to the fact that ..REDACTED. was with ..REDACTED.. at the time of the incident .REDACTED.. decided it was best to not take ..REDACTED.. into custody but to take out complaints against her for Assault (simple) and Disorderly Conduct," reads the report.
