Newton Awarded for Early Voting Efforts

The city received a Gold Medal for maximizing early voting goals.

NEWTON, MA – The City of Newton received high marks this week for its efforts in maximizing early voting options.

It was one of 34 municipalities awarded a Gold Medal by the Massachusetts Election Modernization Coalition for exceeding early voting requirements and offering options such as weekend hours and multiple locations.

In order to qualify for Gold Medal status, communities were required to have one site for every 35,000 people, evening hours at least twice a week and six or more weekend hours during the early voting period. Newton has eight early voting sites, and hours extend past 5 p.m. twice during early voting.
