Newton Bear Captured, Relocated: Police
Environmental police have captured and relocated the bear that's become the talk of Newton this week.
NEWTON, MA — The black bear that was spotted two days ago tucked up in a tree along Centre Street in Newton has been captured, according to MA Environmental Police. And he was taken for a little ride. (That's not a euphemism).

Wednesday evening Massachusetts Environmental Police officers were called about the bear near Rt. 9 in Newton. Police said because of the populated location of the bear, their officers specially trained in the chemical immobilization of animals responded.
Newton Police Department helped and the bear was immobilized. Because the bear was young, Police transported it to a clinic for further observation.

In 2013, a bear State environmental police shot and killed a bear in a tree over the Mass Pike in Newton after they said they couldn't tranquilize it. Then in 2015 a bear hung out in Newton for a while before it was hit by a car on I-95/ 128.
