Newton Boy Wins $1K for Youth Soccer Club

Pavlo Papathanasiou also saw the World Cup in person after winning a McDonald's contest.

Eight-year-old Newton resident Pavlo Papathanasiou, who won a McDonald’s contest to see this year’s World Cup in person, this week helped present a $1,000 check to his soccer team.

McDonald’s donated the money to Watertown Youth Soccer during an event at the Newton McDonald’s on California Street.

Pavlo’s mother entered him in the contest and he traveled to Brazil for the World Cup. He spent time on the field with members of the U.S. Men’s National Team.
