Newton Gets $236,000 Energy Grant
The state has awarded Newton a grant to install energy efficient lights at the schools and municipal buildings.

Newton will continue its march to green energy as it was granted $236,000 from the state to install energy efficient lights in municipal buildings and schools, reported the Newton Tab.
The money will help to reduce the cityâs electricity bill of $36,000 per year by putting new LEDs to replace old florescent lights.
So far, the stateâs Green Communities Designation Grant Program has helped cities and towns earn Green Community designations. According to Energy and Environmental Affairs, more than $28 million from those Green Community grants is already at work in 110 communities, with more than $2 million in additional grants for energy projects in the newest 13 designated communities.
