The championship competition will feature robots designed and built by 4th through 8th graders will coincide with a a hands-on maker fair.

NEWTON, MA - From LigerBots: The LigerBots, Newton’s competitive high school robotics team, will host the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Eastern Massachusetts State Qualifier and a maker fair on November 17 at Newton North High School, 457 Walnut St, from 9am to 3pm. The competition features 4th through 8th-grade LEGO Robotics teams and hands-on activities.
With a tone that combines a student sports championship match with a science fair, a family reunion, and a dance party, 24 FLL teams from the eastern half of Massachusetts will compete for a chance to attend the FIRST Eastern Massachusetts Championship in December 2018. Last year’s event drew more than 300 people.
Each FLL team has spent months building and programming robots to perform complex tasks as laid out by the FIRST organization. This year’s game, called “Into Orbit” has a space theme. In addition to the work on their robots, students also created projects designed solve real-world, space exploration problems. Those projects will also be on display.
