Newton Mayor Asks for Outside Review of School Committee: Report
Mayor Warren is requesting an external review of the committee following an investigator's report on the handling of anti-Semitic incidents.

NEWTON, MA – Newton Mayor Setti Warren is requesting an independent review of the School Committee following the controversy surrounding a redacted investigator's report on how anti-Semitic incidents at a local middle school were handled, the Newton TAB reports.
Warren, a School Committee member, was one of only three members of the nine-person committee to view an unredacted version of the report, according to the TAB. The publication filed a public records request last April following the release of a heavily redacted report on the handling of two anti-Semitic incidents at F.A. Day Middle School.
A less-redacted copy was released to the TAB last month after the Secretary of State's office ruled four times that the district was not justifying redacting so much of the report. The less-redacted version indicates, among other revelations, that some teachers had expressed concern over the incident to each other and one had apparently brought it to the attention of administrators weeks before Principal Brian Turner informed the F.A. Day community.

Warren is calling for the review to ensure the committee "can operate effectively as a group" in the future, according to the TAB.
