Newton North To Take on Marlborough’s Advanced Math and Science Academy in WGBH's Quiz Show

Newton North's quiz team made it to the semifinals. Will they advance to the finals? Find out this weekend.

NEWTON - In case you missed it, Newton North took on Chelmsford High School in the quarterfinals on April 15 and creamed them. Now they've advanced to compete against Marlborough’s Advanced Math and Science Academy in the semifinals of WGBH's High School Quiz Show.

How will they do in the semifinals? Do they have it in them to head to the finals? Tune in Saturday, May 6 at 6 p.m. on WGBH 2 to find out.

If how they performed against Chelmsford High School is any indicator - Newton North defeated Chelmsford High School in the quarterfinals on April 15 with a score of 620 to 370- they are certainly going to put up a fight.

“We have a strong group of students moving into the next round of High School Quiz Show,” said executive producer Hillary Wells. “Their hard work and preparation has really paid off, and we wish them all the best.”

High School Quiz Show is a seeded, single-elimination tournament is produced and broadcast by WGBH and hosted by Billy Costa. Sixteen teams of Massachusetts high school students advanced from a pool of over 110 schools to compete in the televised academic tournament. The sixteen schools competing on High School Quiz Show earned the highest scores on an identical oral quiz at WGBH’s “Super Sunday” qualifying event at WGBH studios in Brighton.

The season eight field includes four past champions and two schools making their first appearance in the tournament.
