Newton Picks Clinton, Says Yes to Legal Pot, No to Charter School Expansion

A breakdown of the presidential race and hotly contested ballot questions by precinct.

NEWTON, MA – The 2016 election is in the books, and America woke up Wednesday with a new president-elect – Donald Trump.

Former Secretary of State and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton overwhelmingly took Massachusetts, and Newton mirrored that result by an unofficial count of 35,395 to 7,644. Voters in Newton also voted in favor of marijuana legalization and against lifting the charter school cap, two of the Bay State's most contentious ballot questions.

Maggie Alexander, who voted for Clinton, told Patch no matter the night's result, the tension in the country needs to be addressed come Nov. 9.
