Newton Police: 1 Arrest; Student Nabbed with Fake ID, Rolling Papers; Stolen Mountain Bike

Plus, a car window is smashed and a recycling bin stolen.

Incidents, Friday, May 22

  • Police met with Newton North High School’s housemaster, who wanted to turn over a fake license that she had confiscated from a student. She also found a package of Zig-Zag rolling papers. Complaints to be sought for possessing false identification and the license was turned over to support services. The student was an 18-year-old male.
  • A resident said she put out her city recycling bin on May 8 around 1 p.m. and noticed it was missing the next morning.
  • Police responded to California Street to assist Waltham detectives, who had a party in custody on warrants and said that he and other detectives had come to Newton to determine if he resided on California Street. Eugene O’Connor, 51, homeless, was taken into custody by Waltham PD on two outstanding warrants.

Incidents, Saturday, May 23

  • Police were dispatched to the intersection of Pleasant and Tyler Street for a report of a motor vehicle with a broken window. Dispatch said that an auxiliary unit was off with the motor vehicle. A 1999 Grand Cherokee was parked at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Tyler Street with its driver’s front window smashed. nothing was stolen.
  • Police responded to Ripley Street for a report of a past larceny of a bike. Sometime between 7:30 and 10 a.m., a resident’s Salsa Warbird TI bicycle was stolen from his garage. The bicycle is a mountain bike hybrid, grey, with “Belmont Wheelworks” written in large red letter on the bottom.
