Newton Police: Assault in Whole Foods Lot; Car Vandalism

Incidents, May 26
- Police responded to 647 Washington St. (Whole Foods) for an assault in progress. Dispatch reported that the suspect left the scene in a gray, Chevrolet pickup heading eastbound on Washington Street. Officers checked the area with negative results. The registered owner of the truck was identified as from the Newtonville area. The address was checked with negative results. When police arrived to the Whole Foods lot, they spoke to the victim, who was a Newton fire prevention offer. He said that as he entered the Whole Foods lot from Washington Street, there was a gray truck parked in such a way that it was difficult for vehicles to get by. He was in uniform and operating his marked fire prevention vehicle, and asked the driver if he could move into the parking spot because he was blocking traffic coming into the lot. The driver was described as a hispanic male in his late 30s, dreadlocks, goatee, black shirt, responded with “f&^% you.” The officer drove the truck into a parking space. After he got out of the vehicle, he walked toward the entrance to Whole Foods where the suspect was still parked. The suspect jumped out of his truck and got into the officer’s face and began yelling at hime again. He was shoving him with one hand. A complaint was filed for assault and better. The person facing the charges is a male, 42, Newtonville.
- Officers responded to 276 Church St., YMCA, for a past vandalism. The reporting victim said that on two occasions last weekend, his red Honda was vandalized while parked in the parking lot.
