Newton Police: Landscaper Cited for 17 Vehicle Violations; Signs Painted Black
The following was supplied by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

- On April 29, police conducted a random safety administration on a truck/trailer at Commonwealth Ave. at Morton Street. The owner, Armando Saavedra, 9 Plympton St., Waltham, was cited for multiple violations, and arrested on a default warrant out of Waltham.
Saavedra’s violations:
- No Medical Card
- Unlicensed operation
- Employ unlicensed operation
- Falling off cargo (leaves)
- Axle positioning parts defective, shackles on both sides on rear suspension cracked/separated
- Improper securement of fuel tank, no. 2 strap broken, fuel tank dropped
- Owner markings
- Improper safety chain attachment
- Three jugs containing fuel unsecured
- Commercial mower not secured
- Various tools not secured
- Barrels not secured
- Tire depth less than 2/32 both on trailer
- Uniform citations
- Uncovered load
- Unlicensed operator
- Unsecured cargo
- Employee Unlicensed Operation
- Defective equipment
- Default warrant out of Waltham for lights violation, improper operation of MV
- On April 29, police were dispatched to 100 Block Lexington St. for a report of past larceny. The owner stated that she left her home at 10 a.m. and was expecting a package. When she returned it was not there. UPS said they delivered it at 11 a.m.
- On April 30, sometime overnight, someone spray painted both stop signs on Waverly Ave. at Washington Street completely black. Police also noted that the stand up crosswalk sign on Washington Street at Hibbard Road was sprayed black as well.
