Newton Police: More Car Breaks; Stolen Lion Ornament; Shoplifter at Walgreens
The following are excerpts from the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, May 30
- A resident of Jerome Ave. said that sometime between 8 and 9:45 a.m. someone entered his unlocked motor vehicle while it was parked on the street in front of his residence. The person said that a black briefcase containing his laptop and a Verizon Jetpak was taken. Also taken was a duffel bag that contained his workout gear. The suspects emptied the gear out of the bag and took the bag.
- Police responded to Winslow Road for a larceny of a lawn ornament. The woman said that her lawn ornament had been missing from her front walkway for at least a month. It was a cement lion about two feet long and one foot high, grey, and cement color.
Incidents, May 31
- A resident came into police headquarters to report a past breaking and entering into a motor vehicle. She said that her vehicle was parked in her driveway on Jerome Ave. and was unlocked. Sometime between 7 p.m. on May 29 and 10 a.m. on May 30 someone entered her vehicle and stole an iPad with a charger.
- Police responded to Sargent Street for a report of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle. A man said his car was broken into on two separate occasions int he past week. The first was Thusday, May 28, when the vehicle was left unlocked overnight in his front driveway on Sargent St. The following morning, he discovered all the change was stolen from the car. About $5. The second breaking in occurred May 30, and his right windshield wiper was broken in half.
- Police were dispatched to 399 Washington St., Walgreens, for a report of a man stealing items. The man was still in the store wearing a brown sweatshirt. Officers ran his information through dispatch and they confirmed his warrants and placed him under arrest and charged him. Nicholas Coleman Grant, 35, homeless, was arrested and charged with shoplifting by concealing merchandise and shoplifting. He failed to appear in court for charges of shoplifting, possession of Class B drugs and receiving stolen property less than $250.
