Newton Police: Person Steals Moped, Leaves Four Bud Light Cans in Its Place
Plus, man hides in closet to avoid arrest, and a teen swipes some Sour Patch Kids and can't go in CVS anymore.

Thursday, May 21
- Police responded to Grove Street for a report of a stolen vehicle. A person parked their moped in the rear lot of Grove Street the previous evening, and by the morning, it was gone. The moped is a 2013 TaoTao, blue. Four Bud Light beer cans were in front of the spot where the moped was parked.
- Police responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Walnut Street for a report of shoplifting. A loss prevention officer said he saw someone take a bag of Sour Patch Kids, put them in his pocket, and attempt to leave the store. When he was stopped, he admitted to taking them and gave them back. The 16-year-old from Newton was given a no trespassing order.
- Police responded to Morgan PI for an unwanted person.Dispatch updated that Roman Volostnykh had four active warrants for his arrest. He was found hiding in a closet on the second floor and placed under arrest. Roman Nikolavich Volostnykh, 27, 8 Morgan Place, Newton, was arrested and charged with larceny under $250 by a single scheme, possession of Class A drugs, suspended license operation, lights violation, uninsured vehicle, driving with suspended license
- At 8:30 p.m., police took a report at the front desk for stolen property. A woman said after school at Newton North High School she was hanging out on the football field around 3 p.m. when she placed her blue iPod on the grass and noticed it was gone when she went back to retrieve her belongings. It’s a 5th generation blue iPod in a black case. She used her “find my phone” app and it tracked it to a Brighton, MA, address. She was advised against going to the address in Brighton, but to contact Boston PD.
