Newton Police: Woman Finds Man Coming Up Her Stairs; Cyclist's Bike Stolen While Registering for Race; Smashed Window
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, May 17
- Police responded along with numerous other units to Manet Street for a report of breaking and entering in progress. The caller said she had just been awoken by a sound of someone coming up the first floor stairs of her home. When she looked up and asked who was there, she noticed a white male in his 20s with a thin build, wearing white clothes, standing at the top of her stairs. She then screamed and the man ran down the stairs and left in an unknown direction. Police searched the home and confirmed no one was in the house. It appears the suspect entered and exited through a rear glass sliding door. Trooper Purtell arrived on the scene with his K9 Nico and assisted several NPD units with a canvas of the area with negative results.
- A caller said that he arrived for his Sunday morning bicycle face on Wells Ave. and that he parked his 2006 Saab sedan in the parking lot of Wells Ave. He left his racing bike inside the vehicle, and the car was unlocked. He left his vehicle to register for the race, which took no longer than 10 minutes. When he came back to his vehicle, the bike was missing. The bike is described as a men’s Felt racing bike. It’s black. The wheels have “Easton” embossed on the rims.
- Police were dispatched to the top floor garage at 215 Needham St. for a report of a smashed rear MV window of a GMC Envoy. The owner wanted to report that it was smashed between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. while parked. No objects were found around the car that would have been used to break it and nothing was report stolen or disturbed.
