Newton Police: Woman Scammed by 'Electric Company'; Stolen Bike

Incidents, June 20

  • Police responded to Derby Street for a found bicycle that was stolen earlier that day. A woman said she was driving by Derby Street and saw that bike that was identical to the one stolen from her residence earlier in the day. A hearing is being sought and a man, 23, from Milford, is being charged with receiving stolen property over $250.
  • A woman reported to police that her business on Watertown Street was scammed. She said she got a call from someone stating that they were from the electric company and needed a payment of $300 to be paid in gift cards, or her electricity would be shut off. She got three gift cards of $100 to pay them and did so over the phone. After she realized she had been scammed, she reported to the police station.
