Newton Public Schools Will Address High School Start Time
At a public meeting next week, school officials will provide updates and receive feedback about potential changes to the start time.

NEWTON, MA – School start times have been reconsidered in several school districts in recent years, particularly among high schools, after studies have shown the long-term effects sleep has an an adolescent's health.
During the 2015-16 school year, Newton Public Schools examined the district's high school start time by reviewing sleep research, investigating processes in other districts, and gathering survey feedback from Newton students, faculty, and families. The results were compiled into a final report, issued to the Newton community in June.
The district's High School Start Time Working Group has devised six scenarios to move the start time later; some of these solely impact the high schools, while others will have reaching consequences for the entire district. These scenarios may be viewed here.
