Newton Residents Can Show Off Their 'Welcoming' Pride

In the wake of passing the "Welcoming City" ordinance, two residents have created signs for the community to show its support.

NEWTON, MA – Late last month, Newton passed its "Welcoming City" ordinance, limiting cooperation between the city and federal immigration authorities and preventing the investigation or detainment of an immigrant based solely on legal status.

The community is the latest in Massachusetts to adopt local policy protecting immigrants, which has been a hot button issue among residents who have expressed concerns over safety and potential sanctions under the president's executive order.

But two Newton residents have begun creating signs for supporters of the new law to show off their "Welcoming City" pride.
