Newton Volunteers Sought for Child Abuse Prevention Programs

NEWTON, MA – Family ACCESS is seeking volunteers in Newton for its Child Abuse Prevention programs.

The organization is currently accepting applications for the 2016-17 school year and will hold its next training session October 15.

Its program teaches children strategies to reduce vulnerability to assault and violence through workshops that focus on bullying, stranger safety and sexual assault by someone known to the child.

The sessions consist of a discussion and demonstration about handling each scenario, followed by a "Review Time" during which children are offered the opportunity to speak individually with the prevention specialists.

Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) volunteers work in three-person teams and devote 4-6 hours each month for nine months during the school year.

The CAP specialists host 125 workshops in Newton for elementary school children during school hours.
