Newton Voters Back Biden, Haley In Presidential Super Tuesday Primary

About 29 percent of registered voters turned out for the 2024 presidential primary.

NEWTON, MA — Newton voters in the majority backed President Joe Biden and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley during Tuesday's Super Tuesday presidential primary.

According to unofficial results, Biden won the Democratic primary with 10,388 votes, while Marianne Williamson garnered 175 votes. There were 792 Democrats who voted "no preference."

In the Republican primary, Haley beat former president and expected 2024 nominee Donald Trump with 3,413 votes to Trump's 1,895.

Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller said about 29 percent of registered voters went to the polls on Tuesday, compared to 54 percent in 2020 when there was also a development referendum on the ballot and 50 percent in 2016.
