Newton-Wellesley Achieves Highest Rating in Three Procedures: U.S. News and World Report

The hospital was rated "high performing" in COPD, hip replacement and heart failure.

NEWTON, MA – Newton-Wellesley Hospital received high marks in three procedures or conditions, according to U.S. News and World Report's latest rankings.

The hospital was rated "high performing" in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), hip replacement and heart failure. The ranking is the highest given to hospitals by U.S. News and World Report.

Nine common procedures and conditions were examined to determine the rankings. U.S. News and World Report evaluated data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Standard Analytic File, which contains details about hospital admissions paid for by Medicare, and results from patient satisfaction surveys to grant rankings in each category.

The report, released Tuesday, also named two hospitals from Massachusetts to the "Honor Roll," a list of best hospitals in the nation. Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston landed at No. 3, while Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital was ranked No. 13.
