Newton's Gevvie Stone Headed to Rio Olympics

The rower will compete in her second consecutive Olympic games.

Newton, MA – Rower Gevvie Stone returns this year for her second consecutive Olympic games.

Stone, who grew up in Newton, will compete in the women's single sculls for a second chance at Olympic glory. She previously placed 7th in the competition at the 2012 London games.

The 31-year-old boasts an impressive resumĂŠ of rowing accomplishments, including three first place finishes in the single sculls at the Head of the Charles in 2008, 2010 and 2011; a silver medal finish in the World Rowing Cup 2 in 2015; and a fourth place finish in the World Rowing Championships that same year.

Stone inherited the rowing bug from her parents, who were both members of the U.S. National and Olympic teams.

Did you know? In addition to being an Olympic athlete, Stone is a 2014 graduate of Tufts Medical School.
