Newton's Preliminary Mayoral Election To Be Held On September 14

The three candidates running for mayor are Amy Mah Sangiolo, Albert Cecchinelli, Jr., and Mayor Ruthanne Fuller.

NEWTON, MA — The City of Newton will hold a Preliminary Election for the 2021 mayoral race on Tuesday, September 14.

Two new candidates, Amy Mah Sangiolo and Albert Cecchinelli, Jr., are running for mayor and Mayor Ruthanne Fuller is running for reelection. The elected candidate will serve for four years beginning January 1, 2022.

On Preliminary Election Day polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The voter registration deadline for this election is Wednesday, August 25 at 8 p.m.

According to a community update from Sangiolo, Acting City Clerk Christopher P. Sullivan is requesting to set early voting hours for the Preliminary Election at Newton City Hall at the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday, September 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 9 from 8:30 a.m. to5:00 p.m.
  • Friday, September 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Citywide Municipal Election will take place on Tuesday, November 2. The voter registration deadline for that election is Wednesday, October 13 at 8 p.m.
