Overnight Fire at Newton Yacht Club Destroys 2 Boats
The blaze broke out on one of the boats docked at the club.

NEWTON, MA - Two boats were destroyed and others suffered damage as firefighters battled a blaze at Newton Yacht Club early Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the dock at Nonantum Road at 3:31 a.m. for a boat on fire.
Firefighters struggled to get water to the boat as the nearest fire hydrant on the shore was about 3,500 feet away.

The fire spread to a second boat, and firefighters cut them loose from the dock to save the surrounding boats. The two burnt out in the Charles River.

There was also minor damage to nearby boats prior to the two being cut loose.
No one was injured in the fire, CBS Boston reported. Fire crews from Cambridge and Watertown assisted in responding to the incident.
Firefighters are now working to prevent the spreading of oil and gas downriver. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Commuters in the Nonantum Road area are asked to seek alternate routes Tuesday.
