Person Trapped In Newton Basement Fire: Fire Officials
Newton Fire officials said this afternoon someone was reportedly trapped in a basement of a building that was on fire.

NEWTON, MA — Newton Fire officials said one person was taken to the hospital after they were reportedly trapped in the basement of a building that caught fire on Walnut Street this afternoon.
Fire fighters had to quickly work to gain access to the basement where the person was reportedly trapped at a building at 1182 Walnut Street where crews were called to fight a fire this afternoon.
The individual was taken to MGH, said Lt. Eric Fricke, of the Newton Fire Department. No word on that person's condition.

Police closed Walnut Street to traffic.
Photos on Twitter show crews working in a building above the Broken Ground Coffee Shop near the corner of Walnut and Floral streets and smoke coming out of an open door around the back of a building.

By 1:20 p.m. fire fighters had knocked down the fire and were working to clear the scene.
That corner is home to several businesses, including the coffee and breakfast shop, it's also home to long time sushi spot Takara, and Cool Threads.
