PHOTOS: Daring Seagull Rescue in Fort Point Channel

A wedding photographer from Newton captured the images as a woman dove into the water to save the injured bird.

FORT POINT, MA – A Boston-area wedding photographer and his wife witnessed the dramatic rescue of an injured seagull last week as a fully clothed woman dove into the water to save the bird.

Febian Shah, a Newton resident, was with his wife at the Fort Point Channel to take pictures of their new puppy when they saw the woman's brave act.

Shah captured a series of photos of the rescue and posted them to Imgur Monday.

"She had waited for almost an hour hoping the bird will float ashore," Shah wrote on Imgur. "But when the bird kept going in circles, she jumped in to rescue it."

The images show the woman swimming out to the animal as spectators watched from a nearby bridge and pulling it back to shore, before wrapping it in a piece of clothing and carrying it to safety.

An update posted by Shah on Imgur indicated that "Bitty the Seagull," as the rescuer named it, was recovering and would be taken to an animal rehabilitation center in Brockton.

The woman wrote in an email to Shah that the left wing appeared to be droopy and caused it to stumble, but the next day it looked back to normal.

The rescuer remains unidentified.
